Week 4 Assignment 1


RTI  is  an approach  to  identifying  students  with  specific  learning  disabilities and  RTI  can be an  initial  referral  and  identification  process  for  students  suspected  of  having  learning  disabilities. The following are the steps taken to provide immediate and appropriate intervention according to the RTI Model.The RTI Model is sort of like a pyramid.Tier 1 – Everyone begins to receive effective differentiated instruction in this general ed setting. Instruction is given by a General Ed teacher as part of an evidence based curriculum. About 80-85 percent of students needs are met through such instruction.If however a student is not successful in through Tier 1 instruction they will receive a Tier 2 instruction. Tier 2 instruction is a more systematic and strategically designed intense intervention that is provided generally to small groups of students. During such sessions the teacher will address a specific concern that she felt the group needed additional instruction. This is not in replace of tier 1 instruction, rather it is provided as a supplement to it. Tier 2 instruction can be done through the classroom teacher or a teacher’s aid. Students can receive Tier 2 intervention a few times, and then not need it all again. The RTI structure is set up to prevent students from falling through and missing important skills. It stresses the importance of providing immediate intervention to any difficulty that may arise. If the Tier 2 intervention is unsuccessful, then the student will may receive Tier 3 instruction which is more individual and intense. The time spent for direct instruction is extended, yet again, does not replace Tier 1 instruction completely. Throughout the RTI program, students from Tier 2, and 3 are receiving part of the intense classroom instruction along all the students in Tier 1.  Being on a constant watch to notice if a student is slipping, will prevent teachers from overlooking student struggles. 

Providing the necessary instruction at the proper time we know is effective and can prevent bigger issues from cropping up later.  How can we make sure that every student is receiving the exact instruction that is appropriate? What is the best way to identify what instruction will be prove most effective?

    It is true that it is hard to ensure that each student is receiving the proper attention. I do think it is the parents responsibility along with the cooperation of the school to keep tabs on how thier children are doing.

    Excellent explanation of RTI. To ensure that students are receiving instruction that is appropriate for students, there are many intervention programs that target specific goals or learning outcomes. Of course, they can be tweaked and customized to suit students' specific needs.

Expository text can be challenging for young readers because of the unfamiliar concepts and vocabulary it presents. One of the most efficient strategies for which there is an influx of research and practice is training students on text structure knowledge to increase and support their comprehension of the expository texts. When readers know the different text structures, they can predict how the information will be displayed and written. Qualitative Reading Inventory-5 1. What is QRI-5 - Qualitative Reading Inventory-5?
