Week 4 Assignment 1

RTI  is  an approach  to  identifying  students  with  specific  learning  disabilities and  RTI  can be an  initial  referral  and  identification  process  for  students  suspected  of  having  learning  disabilities. The following are the steps taken to provide immediate and appropriate intervention according to the RTI Model. The RTI Model is sort of like a pyramid. Tier 1 – Everyone begins to receive effective differentiated instruction in this general ed setting. Instruction is given by a General Ed teacher as part of an evidence based curriculum. About 80-85 percent of students needs are met through such instruction. If however a student is not successful in through Tier 1 instruction they will receive a Tier 2 instruction. Tier 2 instruction is a more systematic and strategically designed intense intervention that is provided generally to small groups of students....

Qualitative Reading Inventory-5 1. What is QRI-5 - Qualitative Reading Inventory-5? The QRI-5 is an informal reading inventory that is administered individually and is not a norm-referenced or standardized instrument. It provides information about "conditions under which students can identify words and comprehend text successfully and conditions that appear to result in unsuccessful word identification or comprehension". Like other informal reading inventories, the QRI-5 provides graded word lists and numerous passages designed to assess the oral and silent reading and listening ability of students from the pre-primer 1 through the high school levels.  2. Week 3 Assignment 2

As educators pursue CCSS alignment, then, it is crucial to design curricula and assessment systems that emphasize authentic real world problems, engage students in inquiry and exploration and provide opportunities for students to apply what they know in meaningful ways. For the first learning outcome mentioned in the article- Students demonstrate understanding of a text or texts by working together to identify and ask significant questions to clarify various points of view. The students sit together during a group discussion and evaluate the text through open ended questions. They record the discussion and then review the recording to evaluate the relevance of the points raised in the discussion. Teachers can provide students with self-assessing rubrics where they can evaluate their questions during their discussion. This shows the students how they can improve their method of questioning and participation in class discussions. The teacher can also observe the student discussion a...

Week 2 Assignment 3

Viewing the many videos and articles on the Reading Rockets website I learned many important factors regarding print awareness, Speech Sounds, Phonemic Awareness, Fluency and More. The following is a short summary of some of the interesting points that I noticed throughout my research. Print Awareness Parents can have a great impact on their child's success as fluent readers. When children enter the classroom they come in with the attitude towards reading that they observed in their own homes. If parents read to their child daily, children come to realize that reading is enjoyable and fun, and will look forward for more opportunities to practice the skill. In the video, Mira was introduced to letters from a very young age, and had even begun to make believe she was reading  from a text. She had an understanding of how to hold a book, and turn the pages as a result of the daily reading time her parents dedicated for her success. Children observe and take in what they see from ...

Week 2 Assignment 4

I choose choice A. Yes i definitely agree that using Integrative medicine can be very beneficial to society. when a person visits a doctor, instead of focusing on one aspect that may be bothering the person, the patient is examined as a whole person - taking into account all possibilities that may be affecting the person. I think using integrative medicine is great!!! The same is true when teaching children and education. A teacher has to take into account a student's strengths and weaknesses, interests and family background. Appropriate instruction directed to the students can only be achieved when the teacher understands the student in all areas. When assessing a student the teacher should ensure that all aspects of literacy are evaluated so that appropriate intervention and lesson planning can occur. This includes understanding the students level of performance in decoding, word recognition, phonemic awareness, fluency, and comprehension. Discovering how a student spends his ...
